What we look at before fitment

Recovery equipment is only as safe as its mounting. Winches, recovery points and air systems are specified against the vehicle's rated mounting and the intended use.

01

Vehicle mass and winch rating

Winch capacity is chosen against the loaded vehicle mass and the terrain, not against the cheapest available rating.

02

Rated recovery points

Recovery points must be rated and bolted to the chassis in the designed positions. Tie-down eyes are not recovery points.

03

Bar and cradle compatibility

Not every bar takes every winch. Cradle position, fairlead type and clearance are confirmed before the winch is ordered.

04

Electrical supply

Winch cabling, isolation and battery capacity are specified so the system works when it is needed, at the end of a long, wet day.

05

Air and tyre equipment

Compressors, inflation kits and tyre repair equipment are mounted where they are usable and protected from water and dust.

06

Recovery gear and training

Straps, shackles, dampers and their ratings are matched to the vehicle, and we go through safe use at handover.

FAQs

What size winch do I need?

The common guideline is a rated capacity well above the loaded vehicle mass. We work it out from your actual touring weight and how the vehicle is used.

Can I use the factory tie-down eyes for recovery?

No. Transport tie-down points are not rated for snatch recovery. Rated recovery points bolted to the chassis are essential.

Do I need a second battery for a winch?

Not always, but winching is a heavy, sustained load. We check the battery and charging system as part of the winch install.

Where should the compressor be mounted?

Usually in the engine bay or a protected under-body or canopy location, with clean air intake and easy hose access at all four wheels.

How long does a recovery equipment fitment take?

Workshop time depends on the vehicle, the exact products and whether supporting parts are required. We confirm the booking length in writing with the quote before the vehicle comes in.
